“Here is another secret: I have no business being fascinated by you.”
Lament by Maggie Stiefvater is a slightly creepy but awesome read about fairies and all things in between. Yes those are fairy lights on the fence in the feature photo… pun totally intended.
Lament follows 16-year-old Deirdre, a prodigy musician and cloverhand (someone who can see faeries). Enter Luke, a faerie assassin assigned to ensuring Deirdre dies before her music is noticed by the Fae and threatens the faerie Queen’s sovereignty. Deirdre’s best friend James is caught up in the drama as a dark faerie story plays out.
Things I liked:
- This book was a little strange and creepy at times… but it totally worked.
- James, Deirdre’s best friend is hilarious at times and his wisecracking was a much needed reprieved sometimes when things got tense.
- I couldn’t decide whether I liked or disliked Luke throughout the book but I enjoyed the guessing.
“Wow, you’re never allowed sleep late again. You’re crankier than a fat guy in stilettos.”
Things I disliked:
- Sometimes the pacing of the plot was a bit off (or for me anyway).
“We’re watches of this world aren’t we? Not players.”
I really enjoyed this book. It was a bit quirky and unique which was refreshing. I’ve just ordered the second book so we will see if I like that one as much as the first!
Thanks for Reading!

I did like it. It was sweet. It wasn’t too intense and it was a nice wolf story. I was surprised some ppl didn’t like the series when I really did.
